His work and research focus on the relationship between nature, mental health, social support, and spiritual belonging. He is a social worker and an associate professor at VID Specialized University, Faculty of Health Sciences, in Oslo. Bjørlykhaug is also one of the founders and leaders of the Network for Green Social Work in Norway.
